Taking certain vitamins within Nutrition supplements may reduce the risk of alzheimer’s disease. Research shows that Vitamin E and C together at high doses reduce the risk of this disease. This is really good news - having been a nurse I saw hundreds of elderly people with this disease, and it so sad to watch them and their friends and relatives. I have watched family members deal with it also.
This research has been conducted by John Hopkins University researchers, where they used data gathered from a large group of respondents aged 65 and older. Their research revealed that high doses of certain antioxidants may mitigate age-related cognitive deterioration by protecting neurons from free radical damage.
Researchers suggest that antioxidant supplements merit further study as agents for Alzheimer’s disease prevention, because of the results of this study. More information can be found in the “Archives of Neurology, Volume 61, January 2004″.
